- ➤ District 86 will send 33 junior high students to the Illinois Junior Academy of Science Region 9 Science Fair on March 26 at North Central College in Naperville after they earned gold medals at the STEM Extravaganza. - ➤ Legislation to rename the Plainfield Post Office in honor of fallen Staff Sgt. Jose Duenez Jr., a Joliet native, is headed to the full House after unanimously passing committee review. Rep. Underwood sponsors the bill to recognize his military service and community contributions. Herald-News

- ➤ Rock Island Alleman beat St. Bede 42-40 in the Class 2A Regional final basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 19 at St. Bede Academy — a close contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Herald-News
- ➤ Providence Catholic won the regional championship with a 46 to 18 victory over Oak Forest on Thursday night at home, showing a dominant defense and key offensive bursts. The Celtics will travel to Hillcrest Tuesday for a 6 p.m. sectional semifinal against TF North. Herald-News
