CULTURE NEWS

  • Award-winning comedian Eddie Griffin will headline a show at Hollywood Casino Joliet Event Center on Friday, March 20. Tickets (available now) are on sale as the venue prepares for an energetic night of comedy.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Illinois Department of Transportation closed the right lane of eastbound I-80 at Center Street overnight for emergency repairs, and motorists should expect heavy traffic today; the work is set to be completed by the morning rush weather permitting.  Herald-News

  • A single-family home at 2421 Lockner Boulevard in Joliet, built in 1971, sold on Jan. 20 for $374,700 + has 1,502 sqft of living space, a detached garage and a 0.5-acre lot.  Herald-News
  • A single-family home at 24349 West Camelot Road sold for $350,000 on Jan. 20 in Joliet; the 2,210 sqft house, built in 1976 and equipped with central A/C — sits on a 0.4-acre lot.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Joliet West defeated Plainfield South Monday night in a conference basketball game in Joliet. Photographer Gary Duncan captured key moments including Ryan Lipke’s one-handed shot during the win.  Herald-News
  • The Joliet Catholic dance team won the IHSA Class 1A state championship on Saturday, Jan. 31 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington with a winning score of 92.28.  Herald-News
  • Marquette Academy baseball coach Todd Hopkins is a finalist for the NHSACA National Coach of the Year Award after leading the Crusaders to back-to-back state championships. The honor will be presented at the National Convention on July 1 and he will guide his school toward a new Class 2A season.  Herald-News
  • Providence advanced in the GCAC tournament with a 56-45 win over St. Ignatius in New Lenox as Landrie Callahan scored 18 points, with Layken Callahan and Taylor Healy adding 12 and 11 respectively. Local teams also showed strong efforts in games at Dwight and Bolingbrook.  Herald-News
  • Lockport's girls basketball team beat Lincoln-Way West 60-51 Tuesday night (the Porters earned back-to-back 20-win seasons) with key plays in the fourth quarter.  Herald-News
  • Lincoln-Way West won a close girls basketball game against Lockport on Tuesday, Feb. 3 in New Lenox (photos captured key moments of the contest).  Herald-News
  • Lyons junior guard Nate Woods set a program record by hitting eight 3-pointers and scoring 26 points as his team beat York 56-49 Tuesday in Elmhurst & improved their position in the conference standings.  Herald-News
