  • The Egyptian Theatre’s Countdown to the Oscars film series begins today with screenings at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, featuring films such as 'The Man Who Would Be King' and continuing through March 10 with 'Anora' (Best Picture winner); tickets cost $13 to $15.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rep. Underwood (D-Naperville) has introduced two bipartisan bills aimed at making it easier for farmers in the area to sell fresh produce directly to consumers. The Farmers to Families Act would streamline WIC and SNAP processes, cutting red tape for local markets and boosting access to healthy food.  Herald-News

  • Will County Humane Society and NAWS present four adoptable pets (Luna, a 4-year-old husky needing to be the only pet; Zeu, a playful 2-year-old tabby; Mary, a beagle from a hoarding situation; and Dots, a 15-year-old cat with hyperthyroidism needing a permanent home) ready for adoption.  Herald-News

  • St. Francis junior James McGrath (6 ft, 200 lb) recorded 121 tackles last season and received a Division I offer from Oklahoma on Jan. 17; the two-sport athlete (a state champion) is preparing for a bigger role as a senior.  Herald-News
  • Newman rallied past Stillman Valley 60 to 51 on Monday, Feb. 2 as Lucy Oetting’s deep three-pointers energized the Comets to secure their seventh straight win in a game marked by strong defense.  Herald-News
