EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Joliet Catholic Academy, which recently celebrated 156 years, serves 560 students with honors + AP courses and offers 23 sports and over 40 clubs at 1200 N. Larkin Avenue. The school is accepting new applications for the Class of 2030 and transfers. Herald-News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ IDOT said the Jackson, Jefferson and McDonough Street bridges will switch to remote operation this spring plus Cass Street and Brandon Road remain closed for repairs while the Ruby Street bridge is under emergency work and scheduled for final remote conversion early next year. Herald-News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Tuesday's round-up highlighted local school basketball as Lockport (18-4) beat Homewood-Flossmoor 60-48 with Nojus and Nedas Venckus scoring 13 each, and Joliet Catholic upset St. Ignatius 74-70 in a series of closely fought games. Herald-News
- ➤ Lincoln-Way Central beat Lincoln-Way West 55-45 Tuesday in a high school basketball game that saw strong early play offset a shaky fourth quarter. Coach Brian Flaherty said Panos led with 20 points and contributions from sophomore Desmond Gill helped secure the win. Herald-News
- ➤ Joliet Catholic’s dance team won the Geneva Sectional Class 1A title with an 88.23 score and will advance to the IHSA State Meet in Bloomington this weekend, while Lockport’s team (scoring 91.60) captured the Champaign Central Sectional title by edging Lincoln-Way West by over three points. - ➤ Morris stunned Kankakee with a 56-48 win Tuesday after trailing 16 points in the second quarter + senior Alyssa Jepson made key free throws that helped the team secure a second straight road upset. The balanced scoring effort set the stage for a strong conference finish. Herald-News
- ➤ On Tuesday, Lincoln-Way Central girls basketball won 43 to 37 over Lincoln-Way West while coach Dave Campanile celebrated the birth of his son (born early Tuesday morning). Senior guard Brooke Katzmann added eight fourth-quarter points and 11 rebounds to secure the win. Herald-News
