COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Dec. 10, UCP — Center for Disability Services held a ribbon-cutting at 311 S. Reed St. to mark 70 years of serving persons with disabilities in Joliet and nearby counties; the nonprofit, honoring founder Mel Larsen’s vision, will continue providing therapeutic day and in-home services.  Herald-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The popular Vitamin String Quartet will perform at Rialto Square Theatre downtown on Thursday, Jan. 29, playing pop renditions from Billie Eilish, BTS, and Taylor Swift (tickets start at $30 and are available at the Rialto Box Office and Ticketmaster).  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Joliet City Council will vote Tuesday on Joliet Catholic Academy's proposal for an on-campus football stadium + campus improvements that aim to enhance athletic facilities, with construction set to begin in spring if approved.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Joliet West beat host Joliet Central 54-31 in boys basketball on Thursday, Jan. 15 in Joliet, with key plays by Trooper Price and Bernal Fox fueling the win.  Herald-News
  • On Thursday, Jan. 15, Joliet Central girls' basketball team won 79-36 against Joliet West in a decisive game in Joliet — boosting confidence for the season.  Herald-News
  • Friday night, Oswego East won 61 to 48 over Minooka as Bolden, Lockett, and Tucker scored 55 of the team’s 61 points, ending a two game skid with a 13 point victory.  Herald-News
  • BCR Boys Basketball Leaderboard shows local teams’ performance as Hall’s Braden Curran averaged 12.9 points and 6.5 rebounds in a recent Three Rivers game, with sports editor Kevin Hieronymus compiling stats from Bureau Valley, Princeton, and St. Bede.  Herald-News
  • At the La Salle-Peru Regional in bowling, the Minooka Indians won a championship led by Ben Clark’s 1,338 series and advanced to the Morris Sectional, while Lincoln-Way West claimed a team title in Lockport as Ryan Richter took the individual win; other local teams competed in basketball and wrestling.  Herald-News
