- ➤ Volunteers are invited to join the MLK Day of Service cleanup on Monday, Jan. 19 in Joliet and Crest Hill. The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon at Rock Run Preserve in Joliet + from 1 to 4 p.m. at Theodore Marsh, and registration is required. Herald-News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Minooka senior Madelyn Kiper broke her school’s scoring record at the Montini Christmas Tournament and will be honored during the Indians’ next home game against Joliet West. Providence’s Landrie Callahan reached 2,000 points and Lincoln-Way East coach Jim Nair earned his 300th win. Herald-News
- ➤ The IHSA will hold a special board meeting on January 27 to consider moving high school football preseason practices from August 10 to August 5, a change intended to add practice time and boost student safety. Member schools will begin voting on Jan. 29. Herald-News
- ➤ Joliet Central won its third straight game against Joliet West in girls basketball on Thursday at home — the team improved to 11-10 on the season with key plays from Nevaeh Wright and Elliana Fowler. The team will play West again on Tuesday. Herald-News
- ➤ Joliet Catholic lost to Marian Catholic in a girls basketball game on Wednesday, Jan. 14 in Chicago Heights. Herald-News
- ➤ Joliet West beat Joliet Central 54-31 on Thursday night as the Tigers rallied with a 17-point run in the fourth quarter. The team, still recovering from an overtime loss to Bolingbrook earlier, showed improved energy with key plays by Elijah Wilson. Herald-News
