- ➤ The Forest Preserve District invites volunteers aged 10 and older to join outdoor brush control sessions from 9 a.m. to noon starting today at Old Plank Road Trail in Mokena plus additional events on Jan. 19 at Rock Run Preserve and Jan. 22 at Hickory Creek Preserve; registration is required via reconnectwithnature.org. - ➤ Will County celebrated its 190th anniversary (founded Jan. 12, 1836) Monday with plans to spotlight 60 historic landmarks and honor the 100th anniversary of Route 66 and Rialto Square Theatre. - ➤ FDA has recalled several cheese products including brands Locatelli, Boar’s Head and Ambriola after tests detected listeria — consumers in Illinois and 19 other states should discard or return the items and call Ambriola at 1-800-962-8224 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. ET. FOX 32

- ➤ Yesterday, local humane societies featured six adoptable pets in Will County including Merida, a friendly terrier mix, Lettuce, a gentle domestic shorthair, Ted, a timid beagle, and three cats, Envy, Bella and Persephone, with instructions on how to meet them available online. Herald-News

- ➤ The undefeated Newman boys basketball team advanced to 18-0 with a 54-44 win over Kewanee and will play Mendota today at home. Local girls teams also showed strength at the Illinois vs. Iowa Shootout, and Dixon improved to 16-2 as regional sports enjoyed a strong weekend. Herald-News
- ➤ Joliet Central girls wrestling team won a tight dual against Joliet West on Monday night at Joliet West’s facility (48 to 36) with nearly every match decided by a pin and one match extending to a third round. Herald-News
- ➤ Reed-Custer guard Alyssa Wollenzien scored 23 points, grabbed eight rebounds and made seven steals to help her team beat Coal City 50 to 43 on Monday. The Comets bounced back from a close loss last week with strong play on the road. Herald-News
- ➤ Seneca girls basketball won a 40-35 nonconference game against Serena on Monday, Jan. 12; Graysen Provance scored 13 first-half points to build a 29-17 lead before key free throws sealed the win. Herald-News
- ➤ On Saturday night, Providence’s boys basketball team beat Marquette 68-65 in overtime in Ottawa after Curtis Stubbs made a key putback at the end of regulation. Bolingbrook and Joliet Catholic also played notable games during a busy weekend. Herald-News
- ➤ Nazareth won 52-39 over Bolingbrook on Monday, Jan. 12 when junior guard Sophia Towne scored 16 points after starter Stella Sakalas left with an ankle injury — coach Eddie Stritzel said the team worked hard at La Grange Park. Herald-News
