EDUCATION NEWS

  • Residents and parents voiced opposition to district plans to close A.O. Marshall Elementary School (319 Harwood St.) after a Jan. 8 hearing, urging officials to repair issues instead of shutting it down. The district will decide on its future on Feb. 11 at Lynne Thigpen Elementary School.  Herald-News

  • Woodland beat St. Bede 59-54 in boys basketball Friday, Jan. 9 at Woodland High School, with Nolan Price making key plays during the game.  Herald-News
  • Friday night, Joliet Catholic beat Carmel 56-48 with key contributions from guards Jayden Armstrong (18 points), Donavyn Simmons, and Danny Cervantes (13 each); Simmons and Armstrong helped limit Carmel’s offense in the fourth quarter.  Herald-News
  • Joliet Catholic defeated Lincoln-Way West 54-7 in a boys wrestling dual meet on Thursday, Jan. 8 at the host school's facility.  Herald-News
