- ➤ Hollywood Casino Joliet opened in August at Rock Run Collection near Interstate 55 and Interstate 80, relocating from its former site along the Des Plaines River. - ➤ Will County Center for Economic Development is offering 100 paid summer internships for local students at businesses including Pace Bus (Silver Cross Hospital, the Joliet Public Library, and the YMCA), with applications due Feb. 20. Herald-News

- ➤ The Illinois Department of Public Health reported a rise in preventable pregnancy-related deaths in 2021-2022, with Black mothers facing the highest risk. State Medicaid now covers home visits to improve care, following recommendations in the Blueprint for Birth Equity. Herald-News

- ➤ Plainfield East guard duo KJ Miller and Alijah Little showed a strong 1-2 punch at the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic, where Miller averaged 21 points and 4.8 rebounds and Little added 15 points as the Bengals finished 2-2. Their performance built momentum heading into 2026. Herald-News
